Residency Program

Program Overview

The mission of the internal medicine program parallels the mission of the Morehouse School of Medicine –to educate and train graduate physicians who are committed to the healthcare needs of underserved populations which includes inner city and rural populations as well as socieconomically challenged minorities.

The residency program is primarily based in Grady Memorial Hospital a public hospital that serves the citizens of Atlanta, Georgia. Our three year program provides comprehensive clinical experiences in internal medicine that include the intense diagnostic training necessary for board certification and the professional nurturing that are essential for success.

The residency program has a rich patient mix that offers excellent training in all areas of internal medicine. Comprehensive inpatient training in general internal medicine is ready available at Grady Memorial Hospital and South Fulton Medical Center. Sub-Specialty: elective in cardiology, nephrology, gastroenterology, hematalogy-onclogy, pulmonary, infectious disease, and neurology are offered as well as intensive care and emergency room rotations.

Although the inpatient assignments are exiting and rigorous, over 40% of required resident assignments are in the outpatient setting. Ambulatory clinics offer undifferentiated urgent care type assignments as well as structured sub-Specialty: clinic assignments including non-medicine sub-Specialty: assignments both in hospital and in private clinic settings.
